Walking would be the most cost effective way as it is the cheapest form of transport available.

I lived in Breckenridge for several years. Most people traveling alone took the shuttle. It’s a 1 1/2 to 2 hour drive from Denver airport to Vail so $75 really isn’t all that bad. (Imagine what it would be for a cab) Compared wih the price of skiing/boarding it’s a downright bargain. If you’re with a group rent your own shuttle or a limo if it’s cheaper per person. There are public transportation stops once you get there so you don’t need to rent a car.
