      There probably is going to be a tax. Most sales taxes apply to not only purchases, but to the rendering of services. Since renting equipment and using a ski resort is a service provided to you by the resort or sports shop, they will have to charge you sales tax. I don’t know the particulars of Utah tax, but my answer is based on my knowledge of taxes in general, so it might be different (sales tax laws differ somewhat from state to state). I would definitely count on paying a sales tax of some sort.

      The answer above is a pretty good conclusion. I live in Utah and go skiing every year or so. They definitely do tax you for the rentals and the lift tickets. Sorry.
