QBF asked:

I want to ski for two to three weeks in Vail or Aspen. I am a lower intermediate and am looking to improve rapidly.

Does anyone know of any skiing programs and who runs them out there?

Once that are REALLY good!

Thanks

I’ve skiied all over the world and I reckon Canada is the best and cheapest for anybody except maniac dangersports enthusiasts. Right up to expert level skiiers and beyond it has something for everyone and the heli-ski stuff is cheap and amazing. I now spend 6 months of the year in Canada enjoying plenty snow and the other 6 months in Scotland wishing there was at least SOME snow.

Check out the Aspen Mountain Ski school. A good idea is take a couple hour privet lesson each day but continue to practice. In Canada look into whistler mt. Remember to have a good time.

beaver creek may actually have some of the best runs so i would check that out. I would call 411 to and ask for the beaver creek lodge and then ask around for good skiing programs.

Find somebody who is better than you and get them to take you out and show you the mountain. After that get up and get to the mountain early and ski everyday. The only way to improve is to ski every day. Three weeks to improve is nothing, it takes 80 days a year to get better. I was in you shoes four years ago and 300 days of skiing later, I am actually pretty damn good. Hope this helped!!

Vail or Aspen both have professional ski schools, and you can find great instructors at both resorts. If you are a lower-intermediate, you would probably do better to go to Vail first, as Aspen Mountain (Ajax) is relatively steep and does not have much beginner / lower intermediate terrain. They will point you to one of their sister resorts like Buttermilk or Snowmass. Vail has the largest ski school in the world, and the most terrain in the US. I would start with a class lesson first, then if you have the cash move up to a private lesson, which can run over $450/day. There are many different classes, as well as week-long programs specifically for women or other groups, such as Pepi’s Wedel Weeks.

Vail and Aspen are only a few hours apart, so if you are going to Colorado for three weeks, you should try them both, as well as Beaver Creek, Snowmass, and Highlands. But start at Vail until you can enjoy the steeper terrain at Aspen.
